Updated 7 September 2026

Golden fritters made from mashed chickpeas, herbs and spices, crisp at the edges and soft in the middle. The air fryer crisps them with barely any oil, giving a lighter bite than the deep-fried version while keeping all the flavour.

Ingredients

  • 1 tin (400g) chickpeas, drained
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 tbsp chickpea flour
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp chopped coriander
  • Spray oil

Method

  1. 1Pulse or mash the chickpeas to a coarse paste.
  2. 2Stir through onion, garlic, chickpea flour, spices, baking powder and coriander.
  3. 3Shape into small flattened rounds.
  4. 4Preheat the air fryer to 190°C (375°F).
  5. 5Mist with oil and air fry for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crisp.
  6. 6Serve warm with a yoghurt or tahini dip.

Tips for the best results

  • Chickpea flour binds the mix and boosts the savoury flavour.
  • Keep the fritters small and thin so they cook through.
  • A pinch of baking powder gives a lighter texture.
