Updated 7 September 2026
Golden fritters made from mashed chickpeas, herbs and spices, crisp at the edges and soft in the middle. The air fryer crisps them with barely any oil, giving a lighter bite than the deep-fried version while keeping all the flavour.
Ingredients
- 1 tin (400g) chickpeas, drained
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 4 tbsp chickpea flour
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 2 tbsp chopped coriander
- Spray oil
Method
- 1Pulse or mash the chickpeas to a coarse paste.
- 2Stir through onion, garlic, chickpea flour, spices, baking powder and coriander.
- 3Shape into small flattened rounds.
- 4Preheat the air fryer to 190°C (375°F).
- 5Mist with oil and air fry for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crisp.
- 6Serve warm with a yoghurt or tahini dip.
Tips for the best results
- Chickpea flour binds the mix and boosts the savoury flavour.
- Keep the fritters small and thin so they cook through.
- A pinch of baking powder gives a lighter texture.
