Flaky, buttery pain au chocolat with a molten chocolate centre, made simple with ready-rolled puff pastry. The air fryer puffs the layers and melts the chocolate for a bakery-style breakfast treat in minutes.
Ingredients
- 1 sheet ready-rolled puff pastry
- 100 g (3.5 oz) dark chocolate, in batons or chunks
- 1 egg, beaten, for glazing
- 1 tbsp caster sugar
- Icing sugar, for dusting
Method
- 1Cut the puff pastry into triangles.
- 2Place a line of chocolate along the wide end of each triangle.
- 3Roll up towards the point to enclose the chocolate and tuck the tip underneath.
- 4Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with caster sugar.
- 5Preheat the air fryer to 175°C/350°F, line the basket with parchment, and bake for 10-13 minutes until puffed and golden.
- 6Cool slightly, then dust with icing sugar.
Tips for the best results
- Chill the shaped croissants for 10 minutes before baking for a better rise.
- Leave space between them as the pastry expands a lot.
