Crunchy breaded balls of melty cheese and spicy jalapeno, oozing at the centre. The air fryer crisps the crumb coat golden and keeps the middle gloriously gooey, a spicier cousin of the classic cheese bite.
Ingredients
- 200 g cream cheese, softened
- 100 g grated cheddar
- 2 jalapenos, finely diced
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 60 g plain flour
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 120 g panko breadcrumbs
- Spray oil
Method
- 1Mix cream cheese, cheddar, jalapenos and garlic powder, then chill 15 minutes until firm.
- 2Roll into small balls and freeze for 20 minutes.
- 3Coat each ball in flour, egg and panko, double-dipping for a thick crust.
- 4Preheat the air fryer to 190°C/375°F and mist the bites with oil.
- 5Cook for 7-9 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden and crisp.
- 6Cool 2 minutes, as the centre is very hot, then serve with soured cream.
Tips for the best results
- Freeze the balls before coating so the cheese does not escape.
- Wear gloves when dicing jalapenos to protect your hands.
