Juicy beef meatballs in marinara, tucked into rolls and topped with melting mozzarella, make a crowd-pleasing sub. The air fryer cooks the meatballs and toasts the loaded rolls, delivering gooey, saucy sandwiches with barely any washing up.
Ingredients
- 500 g minced beef
- 1 egg
- 4 tbsp breadcrumbs
- 3 tbsp grated Parmesan
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 300 ml marinara sauce
- 4 sub rolls
- 100 g grated mozzarella
Method
- 1Mix the beef, egg, breadcrumbs, Parmesan, oregano and garlic powder, then roll into meatballs.
- 2Preheat the air fryer to 190°C (375°F) for 3 minutes.
- 3Cook the meatballs for 12-16 minutes, shaking every 8 minutes, to 71°C (160°F).
- 4Warm the marinara and turn the cooked meatballs through it.
- 5Fill the rolls with saucy meatballs and top with mozzarella.
- 6Return the loaded subs to the air fryer for 2-3 minutes until the cheese melts.
Tips for the best results
- Slightly hollow out the rolls so they hold more meatballs without falling apart.
- Toast the empty rolls for a minute first to stop them going soggy under the sauce.
