This Philly classic of thinly sliced beef, sweet peppers and onions smothered in melty cheese is a doddle in the air fryer. The beef and veg cook together with lovely browned edges before piling into a soft roll for a proper hoagie.

Ingredients

  • 400 g thinly sliced ribeye or minute steak
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 green pepper, sliced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
  • 2 sub rolls

Method

  1. 1Toss the beef, onion and pepper with oil, salt and pepper.
  2. 2Preheat the air fryer to 200°C (400°F) for 3 minutes.
  3. 3Cook the mixture for 10-14 minutes, tossing halfway, until the beef reaches 71°C (160°F).
  4. 4Divide into two piles in the basket and lay the cheese over the top.
  5. 5Cook for another 1-2 minutes until the cheese melts.
  6. 6Scoop into the rolls and serve immediately.

Tips for the best results

  • Partially freezing the steak for 30 minutes makes it much easier to slice paper-thin.
  • Warm the rolls in the air fryer for a minute at the end for the full experience.
