Updated 7 September 2026
Sausages wrapped in soft, chewy pretzel dough with a salty golden crust. The air fryer bakes them evenly so the dough is cooked through and the hot dog stays juicy inside.
Ingredients
- 6 hot dog sausages
- 350 g plain flour
- 1 tsp instant yeast
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- 240 ml warm water
- 60 g bicarbonate of soda for the bath
- 1 litre hot water for the bath
- 1 egg, beaten
- Coarse sea salt
Method
- 1Make and prove the pretzel dough for 1 hour, then divide into 6 ropes.
- 2Wrap each rope around a sausage, pinching the ends to seal.
- 3Dip each pretzel dog in the bicarbonate-of-soda bath for 30 seconds.
- 4Brush with egg, sprinkle with salt and preheat the air fryer to 180°C/360°F.
- 5Cook for 9-11 minutes, flipping halfway, until the dough is deep golden.
- 6Cool a few minutes and serve with mustard.
Tips for the best results
- Pat the sausages dry so the dough grips and does not slide.
- Pinch the dough ends firmly to stop them unravelling as they bake.
