Air Fryer Snickerdoodles

Soft, chewy snickerdoodles with their signature crackly cinnamon-sugar coating and a subtle tang from cream of tartar. The air fryer bakes them quickly in small batches with perfectly soft centres.
Ingredients
- 150 g (2/3 cup) softened butter
- 150 g (3/4 cup) caster sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 220 g (1 3/4 cups) plain flour
- 1 tsp cream of tartar
- 1/2 tsp bicarbonate of soda
- 2 tbsp sugar and 1 tbsp cinnamon, for coating
Method
- 1Cream the butter and sugar, then beat in the egg and vanilla.
- 2Fold in the flour, cream of tartar and bicarbonate to make a soft dough.
- 3Roll into balls and coat generously in the cinnamon sugar.
- 4Preheat the air fryer to 160°C/320°F and line the basket with parchment.
- 5Air fry in batches for 7-9 minutes until crackled on top but still soft.
- 6Cool on the tray for a few minutes to firm up.
Tips for the best results
- Cream of tartar gives the authentic tang; do not leave it out.
- Space the cookies apart as they spread while baking.
