What the three main settings are for
200°C / 400°F is for crisping: skin-on chicken, potatoes, and breaded food that needs colour before the inside dries.
190°C / 375°F is the general-purpose setting for meat, fish and vegetables that need to cook through without the outside racing ahead.
180°C / 350°F is for anything with cheese, pastry or a sugary glaze, all of which burn before they brown at higher heat. If you are unsure, start at 190°C / 375°F and check early.
How these figures were worked out
The figures are counted from the 304 recipes published on RecipeAirFryer.com on 2026-10-08. Each recipe has one temperature, a time range, a prep time, an ingredient list and a serving count, and those fields are what is counted here.
The times and temperatures are the starting points given on each recipe page for a standard basket air fryer. They are not laboratory measurements, and air fryers differ between models, so treat the counts as a description of this recipe set, not of every air fryer.
Recipes are grouped by their Celsius setting. Where two recipes pair the same Celsius figure with slightly different Fahrenheit figures (180°C appears as both 350°F and 360°F), the more common pairing is shown.

Frequently Asked Questions
What temperature do you cook most things in an air fryer?
190°C / 375°F or 200°C / 400°F. Between them those two settings cover 61% of the 304 recipes we counted.
What is the best air fryer temperature?
There is no single best one, but 190°C / 375°F is the most used. Use 200°C / 400°F for crisp skin and potatoes, and 180°C / 350°F for cheese, pastry and glazes.
Should I air fry at 180 or 200?
Use 200°C when the goal is a crisp outside, such as wings, chips and breaded food. Use 180°C when something could burn before it cooks through, such as pastry, cheese-topped dishes and thick sausages.
