The appeal here is not novelty food, it is the same things children already ask for made with a fraction of the oil and in a fraction of the time. Nuggets, tenders, wedges and pizza all come out of an air fryer crisper than the oven manages, which is usually the only review that matters.

Frozen favourites, done properly

Nuggets, fish fingers, waffles and tots are all engineered for hot dry air and need no oil at all - they are already coated from manufacturing. Cook straight from frozen at 200°C / 400°F and shake once.

Never thaw them first. A thawed coating goes soft and will not crisp again, so the freezer really is the right starting point.

Letting children help, safely

There is no open oil and no hot hob, which makes an air fryer a reasonable first cooking appliance. Children can season food, load a cold basket and press the buttons.

The parts that stay adult-only are pulling the hot basket out and touching the inside - the basket and the element are genuinely hot, and the drawer handle is close to both.

Frequently Asked Questions

What air fryer food do kids like?

Chicken nuggets, tenders, fish fingers, potato wedges, tots, pizza slices, mozzarella sticks and cookies. All of them crisp better than they do in an oven and take less time.

How long do chicken nuggets take in an air fryer?

8-10 minutes at 200°C / 400°F from frozen, shaking once. No oil needed - they are already coated.

Is an air fryer healthier for kids food?

It uses dramatically less oil than deep frying for the same crisp result, which cuts the fat content substantially. The food itself is unchanged, so it depends what you cook in it.

Can children use an air fryer?

They can help season food, load a cold basket and press the buttons - there is no open oil or hot hob. Removing the hot basket should stay an adult job; the drawer and element get very hot.
