The British classic made lighter: crisp breaded cod fillets and golden chips, all from the air fryer. You get that chippy crunch with a fraction of the oil and no deep-frying mess.

Ingredients

  • 4 skinless cod fillets
  • 2 large potatoes, cut into chips
  • 60 g plain flour
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 120 g panko breadcrumbs
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp malt vinegar
  • Salt and black pepper
  • Oil spray

Method

  1. 1Toss the chips with olive oil, salt and pepper, then air fry at 200°C/400°F for 15 minutes, shaking twice; keep warm.
  2. 2Season the cod, then dust in flour, dip in egg and coat in panko.
  3. 3Mist the fillets with oil spray.
  4. 4Air fry the fish at 200°C/400°F for 12-15 minutes, flipping halfway, until crisp and cooked through to 63°C/145°F.
  5. 5Sprinkle the chips with malt vinegar and salt.
  6. 6Serve the fish and chips with mushy peas and tartare sauce.

Tips for the best results

  • Soak the raw chips in cold water for 20 minutes for extra crispness.
  • Cook the chips first and the fish second so both are hot together.
