Updated 7 September 2026

A golden, flaky apple pie baked in a compact air fryer that crisps the pastry beautifully without heating the whole kitchen. The cinnamon-spiced apples turn tender and jammy while the top crust bakes to a deep, buttery gold.

Ingredients

  • 2 sheets shortcrust or ready-rolled pie pastry
  • 4 medium Bramley or Braeburn apples, peeled and sliced
  • 75 g (1/3 cup) caster sugar
  • 1 tbsp plain flour
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 egg, beaten, for glazing
  • 1 tbsp demerara sugar, to finish

Method

  1. 1Toss the sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and lemon juice; set aside for 10 minutes.
  2. 2Line a 15 cm (6 inch) air-fryer-safe tin with one pastry sheet, pressing into the base and sides.
  3. 3Spoon in the apple filling and mound slightly in the centre.
  4. 4Top with the second pastry sheet, crimp the edges to seal and cut a few steam vents.
  5. 5Brush with beaten egg and scatter over the demerara sugar.
  6. 6Preheat the air fryer to 175°C/350°F, then bake for 22-28 minutes until deep golden and bubbling.
  7. 7Cool for at least 20 minutes so the filling sets before slicing.

Tips for the best results

  • Cover the top loosely with foil if it browns before the apples soften.
  • A mix of tart and sweet apples gives the best flavour and texture.
