Air Fryer General Tso Chicken

Crispy chicken pieces coated in a sweet, savoury and slightly spicy sticky sauce, the takeaway favourite made lighter. The air fryer delivers a crunchy coating without deep frying, so you can enjoy General Tso guilt-free.

Ingredients

  • 600 g chicken thigh, cubed
  • 4 tbsp cornflour
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp dried chilli flakes
  • Oil spray

Method

  1. 1Coat the chicken in egg then cornflour.
  2. 2Preheat the air fryer to 200°C (400°F) and spray with oil.
  3. 3Cook for 12-15 minutes, shaking halfway, until crisp.
  4. 4Simmer the soy, hoisin, vinegar, sugar, garlic and chilli into a glossy sauce.
  5. 5Check the chicken reaches 74°C (165°F), then toss in the sauce.
  6. 6Serve over rice with spring onions.

  • Thigh meat stays juicier than breast for this dish.
  • Thicken the sauce with a little cornflour slurry if needed.
