Updated 7 September 2026
Homemade toaster-style pastries with a flaky crust, jammy filling and sweet icing, far better than the shop-bought kind. The air fryer bakes them to a golden, crisp finish in under ten minutes.
Ingredients
- 2 sheets ready-rolled shortcrust pastry
- 6 tbsp thick fruit jam
- 1 egg, beaten, for sealing
- 100 g (3/4 cup) icing sugar
- 1-2 tbsp milk
- Sprinkles, to decorate
Method
- 1Cut the pastry into equal rectangles, about 8 by 10 cm.
- 2Spoon jam onto half the rectangles, leaving a border, then brush the edges with egg.
- 3Top with the remaining rectangles and crimp the edges firmly with a fork.
- 4Prick the tops and line the basket with parchment.
- 5Preheat the air fryer to 180°C/360°F, then bake for 8-10 minutes until golden.
- 6Cool, then whisk the icing sugar with milk, spread over the tarts and add sprinkles.
Tips for the best results
- Seal the edges well so the jam does not leak out during baking.
- Let them cool fully before icing or the glaze will slide off.
