A Six-Snack Game Day Spread: Air Fryer Time and Energy Cost
Published by the RecipeAirFryer editorial team · How we source times · Updated
Six game day snacks cooked one after another in a single air fryer take 68 minutes of cooking and cost about 31.1¢ in electricity at the US average rate, or 44.7p at the UK price cap. One oven load timed by the slowest item takes 42 minutes and costs 30.8¢ or 44.2p.
Key findings
- The longest item is crispy chicken wings at 24 minutes. The shortest is nachos at 5 minutes.
- The six snacks use 3 different temperatures, so they cannot all share one oven setting without adjusting times.
- The air fryer session costs 0.4¢ more than the oven load.
- The air fryer keeps a steady supply of hot food through the game. The oven puts everything out at once.

A cooking order that works
Start with the item that holds its heat longest and finish with the one that goes soft fastest. Wings and potato skins keep well under foil. Mozzarella sticks and nachos need to go from the basket to the table.
Group items that share a temperature so the basket does not have to heat up or cool down between them. Our meal timer works out the start times if you want everything staggered to the minute.
How these figures were worked out
Energy is calculated, not metered: rated wattage multiplied by minutes of use. The air fryer is taken as 1,500 W with a 3-minute preheat. The oven is taken as 2,400 W with a 12-minute preheat. These are the default figures in our running cost calculator.
Air fryer minutes come from the recipe page. Oven minutes are the air fryer minutes divided by 0.8, which is the site's standard conversion (an air fryer takes about 80% of the oven time).
Prices are 26.32p per kWh (Ofgem price cap, October to December 2026) and 18.31¢ per kWh (EIA U.S. residential average, July 2026). Standing charges and taxes other than those already in the unit rate are left out, because they do not change with how you cook.
Both appliances switch their element off and on once they reach temperature, so every figure here is an upper limit. The gap between the two is a fair guide; the absolute numbers on your bill will be lower. Check the rating plate on your own appliances and your own tariff, then use the calculator for a figure that fits your kitchen.
The air fryer figure adds the six cook times together with one preheat. The oven figure assumes all six fit in one oven and is timed by the slowest item, which is a simplification because the snacks use different temperatures.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to cook party food in an air fryer?
Six snacks cooked in turn take 68 minutes of cooking in one basket. Each individual item takes between 5 and 24 minutes.
What order should you cook party snacks in?
Cook the items that hold heat first, such as wings and potato skins, and keep them under foil. Cook cheese-filled and breaded items last so they are served straight from the basket.
Is an air fryer or oven better for a party?
The oven gets one large load out at once. The air fryer gives crisper results and a steady flow of hot food. Many hosts use both.
